Hi Folks!
How are you and how's life ?!
I'm writing after five months!
The reason is, after seven months, I'm back in India for a month.
It's great, waking up in your own bed, making your favourite chai, listening to the bird's sweet call, sitting in your favourite armchair in the sit-out surrounded by your favourite plants who also seem to have missed you!
How have you been ?!
Is life as tough as it was last year or last month?
We are at the year-end and its time to take an overview!
Let me go over mine.
I'd dearly wanted to study the Buddha's teachings since a long, long time.
There is so much knowledge and wisdom there.
The universe is always listening to you, checking your wishes and desires and the ones that you have brought with you to be fulfilled in this life time.
It's nice to know this bigger picture.
It is encouraging, letting us get on with what we have planned.
We plan the time for the fruition of our wishes, at a later dater date sometimes, and we are anxious and impatient in this interim period because we are unaware that we have done it ourselves for very good reasons.
Mine seems to have arrived after completing many, many karmic debts, learning the workings of my mind and bringing it under some control through Vipassana, doing and undoing many things which eradicated the burden I was carrying (and creating) unknowingly.
I had factored all this into my life's plan.
Once I accepted that I am personally accountable for whatever happens or does not happen to me, I felt both lighter and stronger.
And now, I am contented and peaceful and without any guilt about going off so far away for long stretches of time.
You all - each one of you have also planned your life in minute detail, discussed with your spirit guides and finalised with the people in your soul-group for them to appear in your life at the correct times.
There's learning and growth in both - winning and losing, in joy and suffering, in hanging on and letting go without anger or despair.
The question 'why me?' is actually an affront to your own intellect and courage to learn certain hard lessons of patience or perseverance.
You have chosen difficult situations yourselves, the examinations and presentations as a pre-requisite to the next level.
Myanmar is a lovely country to learn from, if one can keep one's eyes open and mouth shut, just absorb what's on view in mundane, routine, everyday living.
The country is not developed materially and the lack of ambition in many youngsters is irritating and exasperating.
But spiritually ?!
It's miles ahead of many.
There's tranquility in the air, no rush to reach any social standing or status of importance.
The people believe in karma and making merits (earning punya) for a better current life or rebirth is a way of life.
But most seem to follow the spirit of the precepts in doing this.
My university is more like a monastery first and then a centre of learning.
The donors, people who visit for blessings and donate whatever they can, the every day food or the requisites for the monks and nuns like food, medicines, food supplements and grains and so on, do not blabber about it.
Women are safer in work-places and markets and returning home after dark.
For someone from India with an overwhelming population, pollution, the noise, chatter, deliberate disrespect to fellow-beings in simple things like not following traffic rules or pushing and shoving - this place is calming.
It allows one to settle down, the protective layers to drop off and let deeper thoughts to float up in silence.
Create a silent space within that you can retire to and recoup your spirits.
Extend your hands and let all the tiredness, defeats, sorrow, anger, all that is blocking your growth to seep through.
Thank it and allow it to go.
Say you are more aware now, will be more alert and joyous.
Allow light into you, let it fill all the nooks and crannies emptied of the darkness.
Smile at the prospect of a new year, new opportunities of learning and growing.
Wishing you a great year ahead.
Take care -
