Moksha

Hi Folks !

How are you doing?!

I have a couple of very interesting questions today.

Here's the first one -

' I earnestly feel that I must work for the betterment of my society.I am in doubt whether getting moksha for my self  is more important than selflessly working for the betterment of the environment around me.
Please guide me.'

All of us, some time or other in our busy lives, do dwell on this question.

There are two aspects to this.

1. What do you understand by ' Moksha?'

Moksha, Nirvana or any similar terminology usually means a place which is peaceful, silent, and / or may have all pleasures, luxuries -

Many, many people substitute Moksha for Swarg (heaven ).
A permanent abode of unlimited happiness and fulfilling of every craving.

I did too, once upon a time.
Fortunately, Vipassana wised me up, woke me up from this acquired / self -imposed silly belief and grounded me in reality which is so beautiful and empowering.

What ( on earth ) causes us to remain stuck in this cycle?
Our unfinished business on earth!

Like paying off or balancing our karmic debts.

This has to be cleared first.
A moisture laden cloud cannot climb high.

For eg, if you have killed, maimed or hurt anyone in any way, or not forgiven someone, the repentance or forgiveness has to be from deep within.

If it is denied because the person believes it does not come from the heart, that the actual lesson of humbleness / gentleness / courage has not been learnt,  then one has to come back again and again until one learns it.

Once this ' karma ' part is taken care of, the ' doing ' part, over time, starts to wither off.

Lastly, the ' doer ', the ' I ' , who takes the longest to go.

Once one has achieved this, one crosses over and becomes an ' Anagami', or a non - returner.

Simple, isn't it?!

No, it is not.

Go sit a 10 - day Vipassana course to start understanding and experiencing this funda, both at the same time !

2. Now for the second part which is so intrinsically connected to the first one.

Working selflessly on one's own chosen field which goes beyond personal gain, like the environment or children or the abused or mother earth ( who is also abused ), is itself a cause noble enough to cleanse oneself and move closer to that wisdom which will eventually enable one to get off this cycle.

Each one of us, before taking birth, plan our agenda for the life we are choosing to take.

We run through important possibilities which may block or speed up the process once we are on earth and take precautions.

Getting Moksha is not always uppermost before every lifetime because we ourselves chose this entire journey to enjoy creation, remember?!

So we indulge in all kinds of silly things, argue, become sad and mad and howl and then become holy!

Or, we have had tough, regimented lifetimes and want to go berserk now because we feel we have the right to ' enjoy ' the way ' they ' did for hundreds of years.

An example?

The new rich. Consumerism.

The desperation of both the rich and poor to have everything right now as if they don't care if there is a tomorrow or not.

The tussle between the developed and developing countries regarding burning of coal and wood fire or the huge dams or nuclear power at whatever the cost.

So take stock of your own feelings and intentions.

You would automatically be working towards your own Moksha when you do any task selflessly and joyfully.

There will  never be a time in even the remote future when everybody has grown wise and has attained Moksha.

Never.

Because the earth is a school and it does not close when we pass out.

We may come back as teachers, masters and guides to other eager beavers who are bright eyed and eager to learn, just as we were, once.

Now the second question -

I had been called to give a lecture on Past Life Regression in a Mumbai suburb.A lady sent this -

' U told all success stories but is there any unsuccessful one? '

I am answering it here as it came as a comment on a post.

All sessions do not give 100% success to the issues taken up.

There are some very important reasons for it.

1. The Therapist may not go deeper as she / he may feel a block in the client.
And the client may not go back for the next session.

2. The client may have chosen an affliction to learn about pain, patience, suffering, curiosity etc.

3. The client may not accept what is emerging from his / her own past lives if it is not to their liking.

Many times, the critical filter of doubts and questions is removed, but intellect and ego stay put and interfere in the cleansing.

When one's ego or self image is one's own identity, one is not ready to let go of it. because they fear a loss of identity.

I can give you a couple of examples -

A man wanted to know why he had not been able to get married. He was over 35. He saw himself as an extremely poor temple priest's son who was to take up his father's profession. There was poverty all around, not only in his house and life seemed bleak.

He was in love with a girl from a lower caste. He knew his parents would never agree, so he stole the little money saved for his sister's wedding and eloped with her.

He could not live with her for long, left her but went to some other village. His sister could not get married because there was no money for her wedding and there was the added shame of his running off with a lower caste girl.

He has the same sister now, older and still unmarried in this life too, and though the family is better off financially, he can never get along with his parents or the sister.

He was shocked when all this came out and apologized to the three of them, though a bit reluctantly.

He then saw himself getting married in 6 months or so.

A year or two later, I had to write an article for a magazine and started to call up a few clients to confirm their health issues, fears and relationship issues had really gone forever.

This man said he was not married as yet. He did not want to come for another session but asked me if I could give him something to do at home.

I asked him to do Ho'oponopono and wished him luck.

Another lady said there had been no improvement in her backache after the first bit.
No, she did not want to come again either.
She had taken an appointment with a specialist doctor someone had told her about.
I wished her luck too.

People always ask how many sessions would be required until their problems go away.

PLR is still new in this country so it is alright to have doubts before the first session.
But expecting 100% cure of all the karmic wrongdoings in one session is not always possible.

Toxic relationships with mother / brother / or daughter in - law / husband / wife / boss / lack of money / fears and phobias/ aches and pains -

Will they all go away in one session?!
Sometimes, yes, at other times, no.

When you routinely pay hundreds and thousands for treatment and medication which has not rooted out the seed cause, there should be willingness to try this therapy for some time.

It boils down to how much responsibility you are willing to take for your own past actions.
Are you ready to let them go?

What would you be without them?
What would you replace that ego or anger with?

Think.
I do not hypnotize you.
When you are ready, it's a breeze.

Take care -

Dear Shubha ji,

Even if I dont put up comment here, I do read all your blogs.
There are many questions in my mind, and here I list a few of them.

1. I try to meditate. I do it for a few days, and then again dont do it for many many days.
I am observing that this is going on for a couple of years.
I am not able to meditate consistently, but I want to. Same is the thing with a few other activities.
For eg. going to gym, music class
Is it my laziness or is it something from my past life that is troubling me ?
How can I find out ?

2. You always explain the law and cycle of Karma thru your blog. So here is a question about it.
How can we find out if an event happening in our present life is a new karma we are creating altogether or its a
result of some action or happening in our past lives.
For eg. even if I worked very hard for all the year, my manager due to some personal vendetta, did not give me
good rating in appraisal.
So now the following questions arise :
1. Is he creating a new karma (bad ofcourse :-) ), of not giving me the rating I deserve.
OR
2. Is this due to my past bad karma ?
OR
3. If I deserve my due and am still not getting it, then can it be like, even if I am not getting it now, I would
get it sometime in future, when really the time is for me ?

Would like if you shed some light on these areas.

Thanks and Regards
Mandar

my question. It is a part of the answer to the second question in your post titled "Moksha". You have mentioned that "
There will never be a time in even the remote future when everybody has grown wise and has attained Moksha."

I don't mean to contradict you but we are observing that the world is changing and so are human beings. We were savage and brutal generations ago but slowly and slowly we learnt to be less violent. There are fewer wars, people are learning to live independently without subjugating others and there is so much of awakening nowadays about spirituality also. It means the entire human race is attaining maturity slowly. And our earth which is also a living being has entered into a phase also where it is experiencing an energy shift, is also evolving. Once upon a time, it was a ball of fire but over millions of years it has cooled down and it is sustaining life now. So, what I can see is that every body is evolving, so, there might be a time in the far future where everybody will attain Moksha and our earth will be another heaven to live in.

Please let me know what do you think or whether this can be a possibility or not.

With warm regards,
